He holds a master's degree in Philosophy from Taiwan University and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Yale University in the United States. He studied under the philosophical masters Mr. Fang Dongmei and Professor Yu Ying-shih. Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Philosophy at Taiwan University. He has served as the chair of the Department of Philosophy and director of the Institute of Philosophy at Taiwan University. He has also been a visiting professor at Leuven University in Belgium and Leiden University in the Netherlands.<br \/> He has achievements in teaching, research, writing, speaking, and translation. He has been studying philosophy for nearly fifty years and Chinese studies for nearly forty years. Due to family reasons, Western traditions have greatly influenced him from a young age, so he first studied Western philosophy. At twenty-three or twenty-four, he began studying Chinese philosophy, entered the Graduate Institute of Philosophy at Taiwan University, and studied under the philosophical master Mr. Fang Dongmei. He understood the unique value of Chinese philosophy and only then truly began his research into Chinese philosophy. Before the age of forty, he was mainly exposed to Confucian thought. After forty, he started to focus on Taoist thought, and after fifty, he dedicated himself to studying the Book of Changes (I Ching).
