This teaching material was originally titled "Basic Theory and Methods of Four Pillars Prediction" (Fifth Special Training Class Lecture Notes). It was further organized and summarized based on "Analysis of Four Pillars Prediction Examples," "Q&A Compilation for Four Pillars Prediction," and "Guide to Learning I Ching." Its theoretical system is more systematic and complete, once again sparking renewed enthusiasm for studying I Ching. Starting from January 1, 2004, it was officially designated as the instructional material for the Four Pillars correspondence course together with the "Guide to Learning I Ching."
A large number of astrology enthusiasts have written letters and made phone calls, giving high praise to the fundamental theories and methods of Four Pillars prediction explained in the book: "The theory is systematic and complete, the content is concise and to the point, both profound and accessible. Its methods are practical, making it the best stepping stone for mastering Four Pillars prediction." Some even commented, "It's simply a great invention." I feel both humbled and somewhat embarrassed by such high praise; it may indeed be an exaggeration.
The basic theories and methods of Four Pillars astrology are a valuable heritage of traditional Chinese culture. However, the theories are obscure and difficult to understand, scattered and unorganized, with no standardization. Due to their randomness and factionalism, the methods vary, and some scholars and writers deliberately mystify them, resulting in a form of esoteric metaphysics that is mysterious and profound. I have only extensively studied ancient and modern books on I Ching and astrology, extracting their essence and combining it with my own understanding.
Through predictive practice, dedicated research, repeated refinement, and the support and assistance of many students, a personal theoretical system and methodology have been developed, although there are still many immature aspects that require further exploration.
This teaching material has the following features:
This lecture notes has established a relatively complete systematic framework for the basic theories and methods of the Four Pillars prediction. Its process is sequential, clear, and rigorous, with a detailed knowledge sequence. It integrates principles, methods, and examples—meaning principles contain methods and examples, and examples thoroughly illustrate principles and methods, allowing for analogical reasoning and broader understanding.
This lecture notes are written in plain, concise language, with clear and detailed explanations. There are no vague or obscure words. Logical reasoning and argumentation are used to analyze difficult problems thoroughly. For long-standing debates, detailed examples are provided to either refute or affirm the viewpoints, aiming to clarify the fundamental issues.
This lecture notes not only draw the essence of ancient fate analysis but also incorporate practical experience from Four Pillars prediction. It summarizes and develops the "Contradiction of the Five Elements Usage Method" and the "Five Elements Balance Destiny Assessment Method," filling the gaps in Four Pillars forecasting.
This lecture notes standardize the specific conditions for the combination of Heavenly Stems, the punishment, clash, combination, and harm among Earthly Branches. In the theory of the Five Elements generating and restraining each other, it clearly proposes the theories of "obstruction of the Five Elements cycle" and "overcoming by surpassing levels."
In summary, this lecture notes aim to be theoretically systematic, knowledge-based, and sequential; practical in methods; and accessible in language, so that students can understand immediately and apply what they learn.
However, due to my limited knowledge and the need to further explore some issues, it is inevitable that there are some errors in the lecture notes. I sincerely ask all students to kindly correct and discuss them amicably.
