Since I wrote the three books 《Great Qigong Master》, 《New Century》, and 《Deciphering Human Mysterious Phenomena》, information about exploring human mysterious phenomena has been continuously gathering here. The name Shao Weihua and his book 《I Ching and Prediction》 were mentioned to me by enthusiastic friends very early on. Today, Zhang Zhichun's manuscript of 《The Gate of the Unknown - Exploring the Secrets of Shao Weihua and I Ching Prediction》 is on my desk again. Thank you for the author's trust, I am now writing a preface for this book. For more than two thousand years, the ancient classic 《I Ching》 has enveloped Chinese traditional culture with its unique and profound charm. I don't know how many celebrities and scholars have said about its mysteries.

However, anything is very simple once it is understood. The origin of the 《I Ching》 is undoubtedly divination. That is, it is ancient Chinese prediction science. The ancients did not have the advanced technological means of today, but the ancients had a more sensitive intuition than today. When using sensitive intuition to predict the affairs of heaven and earth, various prediction techniques were developed. Divination is one of the most effective and systematic.
It was in the process of divination and prediction that the ancients not only found the technology of prediction, but also inevitably and ingeniously realized some of the mysteries of the universe and the operation of all things in the universe. Many philosophers and thinkers at that time and later developed a whole set of philosophical and ethical ideas from this. Confucius's 《Ten Wings》 and other series of works are like this.
It is a very clear thing, but it has been debated very unclearly for thousands of years. There are two major schools of research on the 《I Ching》 in ancient China. One school is the Image and Number School. The so-called image and number, 《Zuo Zhuan》 says: "Turtle, image; divination, number. Things are born and then there are images, images and then there are growths, growths and then there are numbers." "Image" initially refers to the image of turtle crack patterns, and later evolved into the image of all phenomena. That is, "The I Ching is an image; the image is a likeness." That is, "It becomes an image in the sky, and takes shape on the earth." In divination, the hexagram also has a hexagram image. Number refers to the number of yarrow divination, "divination tells with numbers", and later refers to the number of mathematics in a broad sense. The Image and Number School actually studies
The divination of the 《I Ching》.

The other school is the Meaning and Principle School. It expounds the 《I Ching》 from the perspective of philosophy and ethics. This school is actually the Confucian 《I Ching》 study. It runs through the Confucian point of view, is broad and grand, and gradually becomes the mainstream of Chinese I Ching studies. Speaking of Chinese 《I Ching》 culture mainly refers to this.
The two schools argue endlessly. Even today, such voices are still heard. In particular, the mainstream Meaning and Principle School is still eloquently belittling the Image and Number School.
The debate even stays on such questions: What kind of book is the 《I Ching》? Some say it is a history book, some say it is a philosophy book, some say it is a divination book, some say it is a book of rites, an astronomy book, and so on.

I once pointed out in 《Deciphering Human Mysterious Phenomena》: "In fact, this kind of debate is not of great significance. It is not the correct way of thinking to study the 《I Ching》 if you must narrowly define the 《I Ching》. From the initial motivation, initial purpose, and initial meaning of its birth, the 《I Ching》 is undoubtedly a divination book, that is, an ancient work of prediction science. It is the accumulation of the thoughts and experiences of many sages and officials. In any historical stage, facing major issues of human survival, human beings must solve the prediction of changes in natural phenomena; at the same time, in social struggles, in order to realize their own interests, they must also predict social changes; at the same time, at various critical moments in life, there are various good and bad fortunes that need to be predicted; all these prediction needs nurtured the initial prediction science.
"To say that the 《I Ching》 is not a book of divination is to deny the most basic facts; to obliterate the divination significance of the 《I Ching》 is to obliterate the most important content of the 《I Ching》; to think that it is a slander of the 《I Ching》 to say that the 《I Ching》 is a book of divination is an unnecessary and historically detached righteous indignation.
"However, is the 《I Ching》 just a book of divination? In terms of the definition of modern theories, is it just an ancient work of prediction science? Of course not. Because to divine the changes of the universe, nature, and life, to predict, one must deeply study the various laws of the universe, nature, society, and life, and explore the mysteries of its structure. This kind of exploration is completed in the 《I Ching》 in a unique, concise, and subtle way. It integrates the wisdom of the ancients in many aspects.
Therefore, it answers many questions of philosophy and can be called a book of philosophy. "Therefore, it answers many questions of cosmology and can be said to be a work of cosmology.
Therefore, it answers many questions of sociology and can be said to be a work of sociology.
Because it contains and accommodates rich historical knowledge and historical experience, it can be said to be a history book. Because it includes a lot of knowledge about astronomy and meteorology, it can also be said to be an astronomy book, a meteorology book, and of course, it is also a unique book of life philosophy.
It can also be said to be a book of strategy. It is full of the wisdom of strategy. "Finally, what cannot be omitted is that this is also a qigong book. It has advanced guidance on qigong practice.
"These are our answers to what kind of book the 《I Ching》 is." I believe that the understanding of the 《I Ching》 will eventually "return to simplicity". The confusing and mysterious appearance is revealed, and its true face is clear and natural. Mr. Shao Weihua's divination and prediction practice based on the principles of the 《I Ching》 reproduces the magical prediction techniques of the ancients, which undoubtedly provides extremely vivid examples for us to recognize the true face of the 《I Ching》.

Mr. Shao Weihua's prediction skills are undoubtedly relatively high and are worthy of readers' trust. I also believe that by following this path, he will make beneficial contributions to human society. Especially for natural disasters such as earthquakes, it would be immeasurable merit if accurate predictions could be made.
I also believe that if other people study the 《I Ching》 prediction science as deeply as Mr. Shao Weihua and have a certain talent, then they may also obtain prediction abilities like Shao Weihua. In a sense, this is achievable by everyone. Because the mystery of ancient prediction techniques lies in "divine power", in the omniscient supernatural power of the deep subconscious of human beings. This is common to all mankind.
At the same time, I also frankly state: In practice, most of us do not need and cannot possibly reach Mr. Shao Weihua's prediction level. In today's highly developed modern science and technology, our research on ancient prediction techniques should not attempt to restore ancient prediction techniques on a large scale. That is unrealistic and does not conform to the laws.

Today, anyone who tries to replace modern scientific prediction techniques with ancient divination methods on a holistic level is laughable. The predictive function of the human subconscious has long been 'externalized' into various scientific and technological means in contemporary times. This is an inevitable historical development, and it is the way of the 'Dao.' So, in terms of human society as a whole, what is the significance of studying ancient divination techniques? First, it can serve as a supplement to modern scientific prediction. The orbits of planets in the solar system can be precisely calculated by modern science; your divination efforts are not only labor-intensive but also have low accuracy, making them essentially meaningless. Weather forecasting is becoming increasingly accurate with modern science and covers the entire globe; there is generally no need to exert effort on divination. However, what about earthquakes? What about aviation accidents? For such events, modern science still struggles to provide accurate predictions, and in these cases, divination can be useful. As for predicting human affairs, ancient divination methods can better demonstrate their 'filling in the gaps' role. Second, studying ancient divination techniques helps deepen our understanding of human mind-body structures and the relationship between humans and the universe. All these results will eventually translate into the development of science and technology in society. The prospects here are very broad. It can be said that analyzing ancient divination techniques offers a unique perspective for us to explore the mysteries of humanity and the universe. The theories derived from this will refresh many disciplines.

Therefore, I suggest readers pay attention to the fascinating ancient divination techniques and read books like 'The Gate of the Unknown.' This will surely broaden your thinking and inspire some insights.
Of course, where there is authenticity, there is also fakery. Genuine spiritual ginseng exists, and so does fake ginseng. True prediction skills exist, and so do fake prediction skills. Mr. Shao Weihua's prediction skills are genuine, but that does not guarantee that everyone claiming this title possesses true skills. Currently, con artists are rampant everywhere, and various fortune-tellers often deceive with falsehoods. Therefore, being cautious of counterfeits and avoiding being duped is necessary.

I am someone with a keen interest in all kinds of ancient divination techniques. In my book 'Deciphering Human Mysteries,' I have studied and deciphered various Chinese ancient prediction methods, such as image divination, star divination, dream divination, oracle inscriptions, character analysis, spirit invocation, oracle bone divination, Liu Ren, Tai Yi, Qi Men Dun Jia, and others; but frankly, I am also someone who strongly dislikes all these 'fortune-telling' arts. I even despise various street fortune-telling phenomena. I believe that to live freely and naturally, one should not indulge in 'desperate fortune-telling.' If someone becomes obsessed with seeking daily predictions, they are truly trapped in a misconception of life. People should be magnanimous. People should be free. People should be unattached. People should be confident and natural. Instead of giving endless advice on seeking benefits and avoiding harms, it is better to give people a true realization of 'letting go of the heart.' This is what is called 'The Sage Has No Destiny.' It is not about 'not falling into causality,' but about 'not being ignorant of causality.' From the perspective of caring about the fate of all humanity and the development of human civilization, paying attention to ancient divination techniques is the true path. I believe Mr. Shao Weihua would share the same view as I do.
