Because of teaching and mentoring students, Tarot has gradually become a part of my life. In teaching, during writing classes, I use Tarot to train students' associative and narrative skills, using relationship spreads or question spreads, having students draw cards to associate and develop into a story. In mentoring students, when students are troubled or worried, the intervention of astrology is often more effective and helpful than rational analysis.

Astrology has two major systems since ancient times: 'Fortune-telling System' and 'Timing System.' The Fortune-telling System requires knowing the client's birth date and time or name to interpret their fate, such as Bazi, Zi Wei Dou Shu, astrology, etc. The Timing System does not require knowing birth data and directly divines the current 'opportunity,' such as the I Ching, Tarot, etc. For two reasons, I usually emphasize the Timing System. First, after interpreting the natal chart, how to improve or even change one's fate depends heavily on the astrologer's advice, making the astrologer's subjective cultivation crucial. Conversely, the hexagrams of the I Ching or the suggested cards in Tarot are clearer and more convenient for fate transformation. Second, since fate can be changed, knowing the current 'opportunity,' mastering, utilizing, and responding to it is very important. In such cases, because the hexagrams of the I Ching are in classical Chinese, generally difficult for most people to understand, Tarot stands out in comparison.

For these reasons, my bookshelf has gradually accumulated many Tarot books. I find the value of Osel's Tarot books lies in what others do not discuss or keep private; he usually shares openly. For example, many Tarot books mention using the four elements—Earth, Water, Fire, Air—as principles for card interpretation, briefly explaining each element's characteristics. A well-known domestic author uses the four elements and numerology to interpret Tarot, quickly moving into card spread analysis. Most Tarot books do not explain the relationships among the four elements, which prevents readers from fully utilizing these elements in card reading. Humans are part of a network of relationships, and the importance of a spread is to reveal these relationships. Therefore, understanding the meaning of each element is fundamental, but the key to interpreting spreads lies in the relationships among the elements. Not discussing these relationships is a significant shortcoming. Osel's first Tarot book, "Learn Tarot Cards," although modestly claiming it is not perfect, discusses the rarely addressed relationships among the four elements, which is quite difficult. Regarding this part of the four elements, Osel also provides a deeper discussion in his new book, "Become a Professional Tarot Reader: The Deep Secrets of Divination."

This book has several features:

1. It views Tarot not only as a divination tool but also expands into mysticism. Regarding the principles of the I Ching, there is a famous saying: "Good at Yi (Change) does not rely on it." Why is that? Because they have already gained insight into the foregone. How can they gain this insight? Because they have expanded into the mysticism between Heaven, Humanity, and Earth. The value of Osel's book is that it is not limited to divination like other Tarot books. He elevates Tarot from a divination tool to mysticism, making Tarot a process of self-growth and self-expansion, rather than dependence.

2. Incorporates psychological counseling, emphasizing self-awareness and growth through Tarot. Osel, having studied psychological counseling in graduate school, uses this background effectively. Compared to other Tarot books, he skillfully integrates Tarot with personal growth and awareness. All healing that is not combined with meditation, reflection, and awareness ultimately becomes futile. This explains why some people continually participate in spiritual workshops, counseling, and fortune-telling.

3. Does not emphasize rote memorization but values intuition and direct imagination, which can expand your empathy and associative skills. Osel's book indeed teaches methods of intuitive imagination to connect with the 78 Tarot cards, especially using Jung's archetype concepts applied to the 22 Major Arcana to observe the manifestation of inner life and personality, significantly enhancing empathy, compassion, and imagination. Another domestic Tarot translation, "Intuitive Tarot," claims to be intuitive, but a deep reading reveals it emphasizes card meanings over intuition, with all meanings placed in an appendix for reference. In contrast, Osel's book does not do this, which is why he emphasizes symbolism in his writing.

4. Offers insightful and meticulous explanations of Court Cards, worth studying. In his new book, Osel also discusses a feature missing in many other Tarot books: the detailed role and significance of Court Cards in reading. Usually, Tarot books group the 16 Court Cards with the 40 numbered cards as the 56 Minor Arcana. Typically, the 40 numbered cards are explained using the four elements and numerology, but this approach is not suitable for Court Cards, which creates a mismatch when all are grouped together. Osel carefully analyzes how Court Cards are interpreted in various contexts, providing readers with valuable insights.
After reading many Tarot books, I am pleased to find some with fresh ideas and unique features, and I am happy to recommend them. I also hope that after reading, everyone can, as the book initially states, use Tarot to reveal consciousness and subconsciousness, achieve self-awareness and action, and fulfill life’s mission.
