The study of palmistry has been a key focus in my early research on numerology. Looking back today, I have achieved considerable academic results in palmistry research, truly gaining insight into the fundamental and core principles of palmistry.

In the past three years, my academic research has mainly focused on the Da Liu Ren and Bazi destiny studies. However, during this period, my research on physiognomy (including palmistry) has never stopped, and I have always paid attention to the progress of related research both domestically and internationally. From the works of well-known figures such as Dong Zhongyi, Chen Dinglong, Gao Fei, Wang Dayou in the mid-1990s to today’s Sheng Shusheng and others, I have reviewed their physiognomy writings. These works (mainly focused on palmistry) indeed have some brilliant techniques from a technical perspective, but in terms of principles, they lack rigorous organizational logic and academic scale, and cannot truly be considered part of the masters of physiognomy.

The most important aspect of palmistry research is the approach taken to explore it. Many current books on palmistry teach reading the lines through rote memorization: listing certain diagrams and then providing explanations of their meanings, but without clarifying the basis for inferring those meanings from the diagrams. Such common sayings leave ample room for academic misconduct. Genuine physiognomy research is absolutely not about rote recitation. Every symbol in palmistry must have a principled basis and technical conclusion; it cannot be cobbled together with fallacious or superficial reasoning. For example, when interpreting human lines, one must first determine the main definitions contained in the lines, then explore the symbolic meanings of various variations. Knowing both the appearance and the reason behind it, opposing diagram-based rote memorization is a major feature of my palmistry research.
In contemporary palmistry research, the vast majority focus on the palm lines, neglecting the fundamental aspects such as hand shape and finger techniques, leading to unclear priorities in practice. This deviation from traditional principles and the common secular research style is what I strongly oppose. Therefore, discussing physiognomy first requires understanding the overall framework and principles, which is another major feature of my palmistry research.

Researching palmistry not only involves outlining the main patterns of human physiognomy on a broad scale but also requires delving into finer details. Between the levels of 'broad scope' and 'extreme subtlety,' one must first grasp the general background such as birth origin, educational level, marriage prospects, wealth, career achievements, and kinship relations, then carefully analyze specific life details. Clarifying the procedures between 'broad scope' and 'subtlety' and establishing their unity is another important feature of my palmistry research.

It is especially important to point out that palmistry is only a branch within traditional physiognomy; it is by no means the main trunk. Historically, physiognomy masters have primarily focused on facial features as the main basis for reading, with palmistry serving as an auxiliary reference. Therefore, my research on physiognomy has always concentrated on its core. However, 'Even a small path can have valuable insights'; truly studying traditional physiognomy starting from small techniques like palmistry is also a shortcut. Correctly following this approach makes it easier to enter genuine traditional physiognomy research. My experience is precisely this process.
The manuscript of 'Revised Principles of Palmistry' was completed several years ago, but I kept it hidden at home and never published it. In 2001, Mr. Zhang Zhichun read the manuscript and gave full affirmation. Today, by chance, to clarify various misconceptions and heresies in current palmistry research and promote the healthy development of traditional physiognomy, I am willing to dedicate some of my main academic achievements in palmistry to enthusiasts. I hope to publish this book widely and lead traditional palmistry research onto a proper track.
