Feng Shui mainly focuses on 'Mountain Head and Qi Regulation.' These four words are the core and essence of Feng Shui. The so-called 'Mountain Head' in Feng Shui refers to ancient environmental architecture. It involves hiding the wind and gathering water, selecting the most advantageous places in the natural environment.
Geographers refer to Feng Shui as 'two characters'—Guo Pu the sage said: 'The purpose of burial is to harness the life energy.' But how to observe the life energy? It is said: 'The flow of Qi is guided by water. When Qi stops, it is bounded by water. When Qi gathers without wind, it disperses.' Therefore, it is also said: 'To obtain water to hide the wind.' In summary, without wind, Qi gathers; with water, Qi merges. This is why it is called Feng Shui.
Feng Shui has two main principles: first, using Mountain Head (mountain shape) as the main form; second, applying Qi regulation. The key to the mountain's shape lies in the four formations (Front Vermilion Bird, Back Black Tortoise, Left Azure Dragon, Right White Tiger), which should be upright and rounded, with bow-like embraces and solid connections, conveying emotion. The key to Qi regulation is to harmonize with the timing and legal methods. Therefore, knowing the mountain's shape without understanding Qi regulation is a waste of knowledge about dragon holes, sand, and water's emotional significance. Conversely, not knowing when prosperity or decline occurs is also a mistake. If one only understands Qi regulation but ignores the mountain's shape, they waste their knowledge of prosperity, decline, death, retreat, and defeat, and cannot distinguish the truly auspicious dragon holes from the evil ones. Hence, the ancient sages said: 'Qi regulation is ineffective without understanding the mountain's shape. The shape of the mountain cannot be understood without Qi regulation to determine the causes of blessings, misfortunes, auspiciousness, and inauspiciousness.'
