Since the establishment of the Four Pillars of Destiny concept at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, it initially took shape. After development by Li Xuzhong during the Tang Dynasty, a complete system was formed. Later, during the Five Dynasties and early Song Dynasty, Xu Ziping refined and expanded it, transforming Li Xuzhong's method of calculating year, month, day, and hour based on the Earthly Branches into a method that simultaneously measures all four pillars—year, month, day, and hour—to predict a person's fortune and misfortune throughout their life. This marked the formal maturity of ancient Chinese Four Pillars prediction methods, making it impossible for future scholars to alter its fundamental principles. During the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, Four Pillars astrology experienced vigorous development, with numerous works emerging. The most notable is the Song Dynasty's "Yuanhai Zhiping," which contains research results by Xu Ziping and remains popular in Hong Kong and domestically. The Yuan Dynasty's "Ziping Sanming Yuanyuan Zhu" by Li Qinfu, and the Ming Dynasty's "Ditian Sui," traditionally attributed to Liu Ji, a founding hero and famous military strategist of the early Ming, had a significant influence. Additionally, there are works such as Shen Xiaozhan's "Ziping Zhenquan," Wan Yuwu's "Sanming Tonghui," Zhang Shenfeng's "Shenfeng Tongkao Mingli Zhenzong," and during the Qing Dynasty, Chen Su'an's "Ziping Yuoyan," "Ditian Sui Jiyao," Ren Tieqiao's "Dingzheng Ditian Sui Zhengyi," and the anonymous "Qiong Tong Baojian." After the Republic of China period, this art declined sharply, mostly becoming a means for itinerant fortune-tellers to make a living. Scholars knowledgeable in theory and Confucianism became rare, with Wei Qianli's "Qianli Minggao" as a representative work. In recent decades, publications on astrology from Hong Kong and Taiwan have proliferated wildly, with countless works—some excellent, some inferior—making it impossible to list them all.

Mr. Liu Wenyuan's book "The Correct Origin of Four Pillars Destiny" has a novel structure. The viewpoints are correct, the analysis is thorough, and it can be regarded as having unique insights. It will undoubtedly serve to clarify some of the current chaotic phenomena within the Four Pillars community. It is so accessible and easy to understand. There are few such academically valuable works on destiny in the country at present, which is closely related to the author's erudition, rigorous scholarship, and solid foundational knowledge.

The greatest advantage of this book, which also sets it apart from other astrology works, is that the author wholeheartedly dedicates the core academic achievements developed through years of dedicated research to the readers. This not only serves to clarify the fundamentals of Four Pillars astrology but also demonstrates the author's selfless and fearless character, as well as their rigorous scholarly demeanor. Such qualities are rare among those studying the Four Pillars.

It is well known that the use of gods in Four Pillars astrology is a very critical and easily mistaken aspect. Choosing the wrong use of gods can lead to complete errors. The author starts from traditional classics, relying on a solid foundation and expertise in Da Liu Ren, to present the correct perspective on determining the use of gods in the original natal chart. Additionally, the author summarizes nine effective principles and methods for extracting the use of gods in practical applications. For example, the secret that the strength and weakness of the Ten-Year Luck's Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches must be measured by the original natal month's ruling, the route of the Five Elements generation and destruction between Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches in the Four Pillars, the fundamental differences between Qi numbers and their relation to strength and weakness, as well as little-known key points and techniques for specific annual luck cycles are all openly disclosed in the book. Readers can carefully analyze these insights. This also explains why Mr. Liu Wenyuan's teaching level and practical ability are highly praised by students and colleagues alike.

The second advantage is that the structure of this book is unique, simple, and easy to understand. Since Four Pillars astrology is based on the philosophy of harmony between heaven and humans, yin and yang, and the Five Elements, as well as some phenomena from ancient astronomy and star charts as the theoretical foundation for destiny, it has been extensively developed by scholars over generations, forming a complete and complex academic system. Additionally, countless ancient destiny books are vast, with classical language and profound principles, which can be intimidating for beginners. Studying this system thoroughly could take a lifetime, and even then, some aspects remain shallow and not fully understood. Faced with such a vast system, the author breaks conventions and captures the essence of I Ching—"the image is the symbol, and the symbol is the likeness"—by focusing on "specific information images of the Four Pillars" to guide the entire content. The structure is innovative, simple, and clear, making the complex system easy to understand and simplified, truly embodying the principle that the great way is extremely simple. The book selects typical cases derived from practical predictions for various specific information images, analyzing them in detail from a theoretical perspective, making it easy for readers to learn and understand. It offers fresh and valuable insights at every turn.

It deepens the understanding of the concepts of fate and enhances the skills and techniques for flexible application of knowledge, playing a very positive role. The author selects highly conceptual and skillful fate examples from extensive real-life practical cases, which are based on methods, supported by reasoning, observable through symbols, and demonstrable with numbers, all vividly portrayed. This provides readers with inspiration and guidance to infer other related cases, leaving higher-level readers with valuable insights.
The broad space for independent thinking. In short, the author's precise and superb fortune-telling skills are truly impressive, and readers can carefully savor them.

Originally, Qimen, Liu Ren, Xuan Kong, Meihua Yi, Liu Yao, and Wai Ying were my main research topics. I studied Four Pillars for a period of time in 1988. At that time, I felt that Four Pillars had the following shortcomings:

1. China has a large population, and it is common to find people with identical Four Pillars, but their destinies are different. How can this be explained? Including some twin brothers or sisters, not only do they have the same Four Pillars, but their appearances are almost identical, and their living environments (Feng Shui) are also the same. However, their fates are vastly different. How does the Four Pillars prediction model resolve these contradictions?

2. Some Four Pillars and Five Elements are incomplete, and the Six Relationships are incomplete, such as Four Pillars where one Qi is overly dominant. How can these unseen Six Relationships be identified during the prediction process?

In the eight characters of the Three Pillars, where does the cycle of the Five Elements' generation and overcoming begin? And where does it end?
These issues have troubled me for a long time without resolution, so I gave up after two years of trying. I focused my main energy on Qimen, Liu Ren, Meihua Yi, Xuan Kong Feng Shui, Liu Yao, and external response techniques. After several years of research and practice, I have gained some insights.

In 1993, I revisited the classic Four Pillars studies, mainly reading books such as "San Ming Tong Hui," "Yuan Hai Zi Ping," "Wu Xing Jing Ji," and "Luo Lu Zi." At that time, I had gained some insights into Qimen, Liu Ren, Plum Blossom Yi, and Liu Yao. Reading works on Four Pillars destiny was more in-depth than in 1988.
At the beginning of studying, it felt easy to understand. So I read the book while practicing, using the Four Pillars of my family and friends around me—comparing and practicing to find patterns. Gradually, I discovered some tips and gained some insights.

Because I have no teacher to guide me in studying the Four Pillars, I am entirely self-taught. I have collected all the available materials and books related to destiny and metaphysics. During that period, the main works I read on destiny included "San Ming Tong Hui," "Yuan Hai Zi Ping," "Luo Lu Zi," "Shen Feng Tong Kao," "Di Tian Sui," "Zi Ping Zhen Juan," "San Che Yi Lan," "Hu Zhong Zi," "Yu Zhao Ding Zhen Jing," "Qian Li Ming Gao," "Ming Li Tan Yuan," and "Wu Xing Jing Ji."
After years of study and practice, I have gained some experience and insights in Four Pillars astrology. However, not long after, my research into the Four Pillars once again fell into difficulties. The reason is that in recent years, many "New School Four Pillars" theories have emerged domestically. These "New School theories" quickly swept through the astrology community, and some new theories and methods that are incompatible with traditional classical theories became mainstream. Many astrology enthusiasts (including some experts and scholars) also joined the research of these new theories. This made it very difficult for me to communicate with them. The new terminology used by the new school was quite unfamiliar to me, such as "Hundred Theories," "Light and Dark Theory," "Void and Solid Theory," "Multiple Patterns," "True Pattern," "Fake Pattern," "Pattern Transformation,"
"Divine transformation"… and a series of classic works have never introduced these new terms before. The emergence of these new concepts makes me seem a bit "unable to keep up with the trend." Some friends (including a few of my students) say I don't understand the Four Pillars.

In helplessness, I can only rely on practice to verify. I brought some representative Eight Characters (Ba Zi) for several "New School Four Pillars" scholars to examine. After analysis, all of these Four Pillars unexpectedly turned into "conforming" Ba Zi. Some were classified as "genuine conforming," some as "fake conforming," and others as "multiple conforming." Originally, in my view, these Ba Zi were all normal, ordinary patterns.
